ประติมากรรม “คนลากเกวียน” สร้างขึ้นจากภาพถ่ายประวัติศาสตร์ของชาวแม่โจ้ที่ปรากฏบุคคลสำคัญ 4 ท่าน ได้แก่ บุญรอด บุญบงการ (หน้าเกวียน), พยนต์ ศรลัมภ์ และ แถว สิทธิพงษ์ (หน้าล้อ) และ ผิว โกมลวณิชย์ (หลังเกวียน) ซึ่งร่วมแรงกันลากเกวียนอย่างเข้มแข็ง แม้ไม่ทราบปีที่ถ่ายภาพแน่ชัด แต่ภาพดังกล่าวได้เป็นแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างประติมากรรม ภายใต้คติ “งานหนักไม่เคยฆ่าคน”
ผลงานนี้เป็นความภาคภูมิใจของศิษย์เก่าแม่โจ้ รุ่น 65 ที่สร้างไว้เป็นอนุสรณ์เตือนใจศิษย์ทุกรุ่น เริ่มก่อสร้างเมื่อ 16 ธันวาคม 2546 แล้วเสร็จ 30 มกราคม 2547 และมอบให้มหาวิทยาลัยแม่โจ้เมื่อ 17 กุมภาพันธ์ 2547 ด้วยงบประมาณ 430,000 บาท ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2550 เมื่อมหาวิทยาลัยสร้างลานจัตุรัสนานาชาติ จึงได้ย้ายประติมากรรมไปประดิษฐานที่ สวนพิรุณ ซึ่งยังคงตั้งอยู่เพื่อรำลึกถึงจิตวิญญาณความอดทนของลูกแม่โจ้จนถึงปัจจุบัน

The “Cart Pullers” sculpture was inspired by a historic photograph from Maejo showing four individuals working together to pull a cart: Boonrod Boonbongkan (front of the cart), Payont Sornlamph and Taeo Sitthiphong (at the wheels), and Piw Komolwanit (rear of the cart). Although the exact year of the photograph is unknown, the image inspired the creation of the sculpture under the motto “Hard work never killed anyone.”
The sculpture was created by Maejo Alumni Class 65 as a memorial to inspire future generations. Construction began on 16 December 2003, was completed on 30 January 2004, and was presented to Maejo University on 17 February 2004 with a budget of 430,000 baht. In 2007, when the university built the International Plaza, the sculpture was relocated to Phirun Garden, where it remains as a symbol of the perseverance and spirit of Maejo students.
